Adelaide - Dining Recommendations?

I'm travelling to Adelaide as well as Barossa Valley and McClaren Vale this weekend (Friday night onwards). Can you suggest any dining options in or near those areas? Or any must try places where I can make a detour specifically for?

EDIT: I remember reading Matt from Abstract Gourmet's trip to Adelaide.

Suggestions from readers
Adelaide
McClaren Vale
Barossa Valley

I've since re-read it all and there are heaps of tips there. If you have any more suggestions, please let me know.

So far I'm thinking of going to the following places

*Goodlife Organic Pizza, Glenelg
*Penny's Hill Restaurant, McClaren Vale
*Mesa Lunga, Adelaide
*Melting Pot, Hyde Park

  1. Hi Thanh, I can wholeheartedly recommend Penny's Hill. It is a beautiful space in which to while away an afternoon :)

Although it doesn't have food, Simon Hackett winery is worth visiting, for some very nice boutique drops.

Back in town, I really loved Alphutte, which is somewhat of a local establishment. The food is magnificent and is very well priced, with delightfully retro touches like a drinks cart and friendly old world service.

I also had one of the best bang up Chinese meals ever at Ying Chow on Gouger Street, which is like Adelaide's equivalent of Supper Inn. Dirt cheap, and great wine list - where else can you find Shaw and Smith Sav Blanc for $20.

Be sure to check out the Central Markets, too, especially the hawker style food court.

  2. Thanks for all the tips Dan. I have written them all down on my SA info file.

I re-read Matt's post more carefully and he didn't think Melting Pot was that great, so I think I will drop it off the list.

I am definitely going to try Penny Hills and hopefully get to Simon Hackett's winery. The degustation at Penny Hill's for $50 sounds like a bargain.

Also, Alphutte sounds like a must try too. I'm not a massive fan of Chinese food so Ying Chow I will see.

Markets, hawker food, bingo. I'm there.

  3. The Brit does good pub-style grub, but I don't have a clue where it is!
